I signed up for a mailing list to receive additional communication from a clothing company; however, the frequency of emails quickly became overwhelming. When I tried to unsubscribe from one of the emails, I had a difficult time locating the link. It turned out to be buried at the very bottom of the message within a generic “click here” link.

From a usability and accessibility perspective, “click here” should be avoided because it requires extra effort from the user to read the surrounding text to understand the action. Instead, the action should be clearly written and the relevant words should be used as the hyperlink. For example, the sentence could read, “Please unsubscribe from this email to stop receiving future messages,” with “unsubscribe” presented as the link.
