Who’s the DRI?
I just watched a 60 Minutes special about Apple Computers and how they run their business. I was amazed that Apple does almost everything opposite of large corporations. The tech giant is amazingly very secretive instead of being transparent. The company would rather have their employees be specialists instead of “jacks of all-trades”. Furthermore, they identified that each project has Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) instead of a committee. Apple believes an individual should be responsible for a project so a finger can be pointed when something goes good or bad.
I instantly thought about how the DRI concept is a direct parallel to how you should be running your web project. You need to have specialists involved to complete parts of the project, however ultimately a point person, generally the project manager, is held responsible for a successful launch. Have you identified your DRI on your web project? If not, perhaps you can take a book out of Apple’s style of work ethic.
